Zorgafhankelijke vijfenzestigplusser often has dental problems
The elderly in a nursing home to live, or elderly people who are recently home care have, generally appear to be than a bad oral health.
This study shows dentist Arie Hoeksema, that Wednesday, to be presented at the University of Groningen.
The problems range from cavities, broken teeth and gum problems, and in people with dentures, pasvormproblemen and other complaints.
The doctor studied the data of 725 zorgafhankelijke the elderly in the nursing home were included, 103 elderly people living at home who recently home care received and 1.026 living at home vijfenzeventigplussers with and without cloak – and home care.
Do not cooperate
Hoeksema concludes, among other things, that patients with own teeth (in comparison with patients without teeth) were younger at admission in the nursing home, but that they also more often did not want to cooperate during treatment by the dentist and poor oral health. 72 percent of all new nursing home residents turned out to the oral hygiene quite poor, and would there really need to be treated.
Hoeksema stated further that people with dentures are more vulnerable and zorgafhankelijker are the people who have their own teeth have. Also used this group in a greater proportion of medications.
