After being fired by Disney in July for ten-year-old inappropriate tweets, filmmaker James Gunn, he is to write and direct the third installment of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise for Marvel. At the time, Gunn has openly apologized for the tweets, saying that he ” regret them for the many years since.’ The ‘Guardians’ cast released in an open letter later that month, in full support of Gunn.
Zoe Saldana couldn’t be happier that James Gunn is restored as director of the “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.”
ET Ash Crossan spoke with the actress at the Los Angeles press day for her upcoming film “Missing Link”, where she opened up about her reaction to Gunn “Guardians.” He was fired by Disney in July, after a controversial joke he made almost a decade ago, popped up on Twitter.
“I’m proud of him. I’m glad that he’s coming back,” Saldana said Gunn. “I am so proud of Disney, actually, that all leaders now behind that large corporation has decided to set a good example and spreading the word and the message of salvation is important.”

Shortly after his firing in July, Gunn apologized, while the “Guardians” cast — including Saldana, Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista and more — expressed their support for him in an open letter, asking that he be reinstated as a director. Eight months later, he was; he tweeted earlier this month that he was “very appreciative” of those who stood by him, and said that he was continuing to work on “the best man I can be.”
Saldana is also proud of the way Disney has embraced representation. They could not be more pleased with the success of Brie Larson “Captain Marvel.”

“I liked it so much. I am so proud of her, I’m so proud of Marvel Studios,” she said. “I am also so glad that the public is welcomed and they are really supported, because that was the most important part of this whole equation. We need to go and support these films with women leads, in order for our companies to understand that there are things in investing in female stories.”

“It is better representative of what America is today,” she said, noting that “Black Panther” was also a good example of the diversity on the screen is worth. “It is no longer that shift of, ‘Oh, you can that this happens?’ It is more like you have to do it, because if you don’t you’re neglecting to 49% of your audience.”
For now, Saldana is focusing on her new stop-motion film “Missing Link” in which she plays adventurer Adelina two Weeks, which accompanies a myths and monsters researcher, Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) on his quest to prove the existence of a legendary creature, Mr. Link (Zach Galifianakis).

“[My character is a true sense of justice, so she’s not going to be Lionel to take advantage of Mr. Clutch,” the actress explained. “Also, she finds herself displaced again. She is an immigrant, she buried her husband and now, she finds herself asking, ” What should I do? Who am I? Where do I go?’ So they, there is an urgent need for an adventure. She begins this adventure with them and find himself, but discovers that selfless is a part of self-discovery-to be there for others.”
“Missing Link” hits theaters on April 12.
