You can store these fruit and vegetables in the fridge, is it not?

Fruits and vegetables end up after doing the shopping, often, as a matter of course in the fridge. However, not all products are equally resistant to low temperatures. Professor Ernst Woltering from the University of Wageningen, tells you how it is.

Vegetables and fruit also have of oxygen from the air, after they have been harvested and the CO2 is back. By placing them in cool storage, this will be on the back burner, and set it to spoil, right? They will lose, because of this, less and less moisture, they will dry less quickly.

“Not all of the fruits and vegetables are good for a low-temperature,” says Woltering, professor of productfysiologie and quality of product. He does it at the Wageningen University and research, for as long as possible, keep products.

“A tomato that is at too low a temperature, it is kept, will never taste quite as good.”

“Tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers are examples of this. They will be at around 12 degrees celsius will be kept. However, to keep a lot of people have them in the fridge.”

A tomato that is at too low a temperature, it is kept, is a very different taste, and it is lost in the typical tomato aroma. “If you’re in the blind tasting, you could not even taste the tomato, it is,” said Woltering.

Keep the eggplant and the peppers, not the fruit

Note, however, that the eggplant and the pepper out of the fridge, not the fruit or tomato preserves. Bananas, oranges, apples, and tomatoes are a part of its gas, ethylene off. The eggplant and peppers are sensitive, they can get to places and go to more bitter flavors.

“Basil goes black in the fridge, like cucumber, is often glazed on the inside.”

Also, the mango and the cucumber, the quality when you get them at a low temperature for preserving. The majority of herbs can be good against the chill. This does not apply to women. Woltering: “If you’re in the fridge, put it has been quickly black.”

A cucumber is in the fridge, on the inside, often with a blank look. “The damage that you see when it warms up to room temperature,” said the professor.

In fact, we have a vegetable drawer should have a 12 degree? “That would be better,” said Woltering. “The basement is often an ideal place for the storage of vegetables and fruit, and that the fridge is actually too cold for them. But I think that a lot of houses these days.”

Apples, pears, and kiwifruit may be good for in the fridge

On the other hand, there are also plenty of products that are perfectly stored in the refrigerator, but instead of which, we just usually don’t do. Apples, pears, and kiwis, for example. “That will be all for quite a long time in cold storage rooms be kept, so that they are available throughout the year to the end consumer,” explains Woltering from it. “Because she’s a cool store, they are in the home longer.”

Like a mango or avocado is ripe, you can, according to Woltering, however, left out in the cold to explain. “So, slow down your over-ripe can be. Interestingly enough, the more mature fruits are less susceptible to low temperature. The quality will rapidly decline.”

Pre-cut fruits or vegetables must always be kept in the refrigerator to prevent the growth of micro-organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, yeasts) to slow down, even if it is not good for the taste.
