Saturday 1 October is the re-World Veggie Day. Eva vzw – words: Ethical Vegetarian Alternative – calculated the impact of this initiative on the environment.
Less meat to eat not only saves dierenlevens, it is also better for the environment, think of the fodder that is greatly reduced (and so also land and energy), the water that the meat production, the environmental costs and the emission of methane gases by cattle. In the run-up of World Veggie Day, on October 1, wants Eva even more extra focus on the subject.
The organization asks everyone to make an extra effort to do, and on that day the vegetarian tour to go on. ‘Because if all Belgians involved, then we save no less than 13.800 tonnes of CO2. That are 5000 less cars on the road, ‘is heard.
‘Difficult can that not be,’ says Eve, referring to the numerous and especially fantastic alternatives for meat in the plate.
The organization hopes that the call all living rooms reached that day, everywhere the menu is adapted. And who really is no inspiration, then get started with the recipe for vegetables in pickles-cream sauce with gratin of chickpeas, declared the feestrecept for the Veggieweek 2016 and conceived by chef Pieter-Jan Ribbon (also known as my Pop-up restaurant 2015).
To the action still in the “picture” to convert the organisation asks to take a picture of his veggiemaaltijd and posts via Facebook and Twitter, with the hashtag #wereldveggiedag.
Of course, it does not need one day to continue. Several days per week to eat vegetarian food reduces the impact on the environment.
The Veggieweek goes on 24 september. Until 1 October, everywhere in Flanders and Brussels veggie activities and cooking workshops are organized. Click here for an overview: evavzw.be/veggieweek.
