World cup under-17 kent first for female referees
FIFA has for the world CHAMPIONSHIP under 17 for the first time female referees appointed to a tournament for men.
“We feel that the time is to the female elitescheidsrechters also in mannencompetities to whistle,” says Massimo Shot, head of referees at FIFA, on Friday in a statement from the wereldvoetbalbond.
“They have been working together with their male colleagues, and now we want the women in action during a tournament.”
The female arbitrators have been called ‘support the peer reviewers’ and will therefore no races, but only the male referees support. The total to seven women.
Bibiana Steinhaus is not one of the designated referees. The 38-year-old German this season becomes the first female arbitrator in the Bundesliga, which launches on Friday.
There are no Dutch arbitrators selected for the world cup under-17, that between 6 and 28 October, will take place in India. The Dutch national team under-17 has not been placed for the global final tournament.
