Actor and Texas native Woody Harrelson has sent a letter to the Governor of Texas Greg Abbott asking him to put a ban on a wild pig to catch event in Bandera, claiming that it is in violation of Texas animal cruelty laws. Harrelson is moved to the drafting of the plea after PETA shared video of pigs and piglets is turned and drove on the now controversial annual Bandera Bacon Bash.

In the letter, shared with Fox News by PETA, the Academy Award-nominated actor asks Abbott to the end of the 17-year-old case over concerns about “the cruelty that the pigs are subjected.”

“I am very proud of my country of origin and the most merciful, the independent spirit of my fellow Texans,” Harrelson begins in his letter, before going on his “shock” about the images that he saw during the hog catch.

“This year’s event in March, which eyewitnesses recorded, screaming, frightened pigs were chased around an arena. Harrelson compared the behavior of the bullies and wrote that the violence encourages the inhumane treatment of animals.

Texas law forbids the infliction of unnecessary and undeserved pain and suffering of animals, so I implore you to ensure that the law is maintained here and an executive order to prohibit this event,” he concludes.

The PETA organization is speaking out against Popeyes use of a new ’emotional support chicken’ meal carriers sold at the Philadelphia International airport.

Sponsors Bandera Wranglers have defended the event, which raises money for various non-profit organizations in Bandera – invented the Cowboy Capital of the World.

“We are going to take control of it. We’re not going to let them bully us down to stop an event that raises a lot of good funds for the community,” Brandon Nicholson, vice-president of Bandera Wranglers, told KSAT.

However, the Bandera Wranglers are not backing down – despite the reportedly received death threats on social media.

Nicholson told KSAT the Bandera Bacon Bash has raised money for the local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club and other local groups, as well as offers with the wild pig, the overpopulation, which can lead to millions of dollars damage to agricultural land.
