Woman steals ambulance from New Mexico hospital ‘to get heroin,” the police says

A woman was arrested Saturday after stealing an ambulance from a New Mexico hospital and drive around in circles to look for heroin before the crash, police said.

Ashley Ulibarri, 25, reportedly stolen from the vehicle of the University of New Mexico Hospital where she was a patient, the Albuquerque Journal, citing a criminal complaint.

She was discharged from the hospital and went in an ambulance, which had opened its doors, the newspaper. She then allegedly drove the car around and came in another ambulance.

Ulibarri allegedly drove the second ambulance, a street before hitting a pole and get stuck, according to the Albuquerque Journal. She reportedly then got on a gurney and did as if they were a patient.

She would have told an officer “she wanted heroin, so they took the ambulance to arrive.” They told the police that she hurt her back in the crash and was taken to the hospital, the paper reported.
