Woman dies after shot in the South Carolina gun range

ANDERSON, S. C. – Authorities say a woman shot in the eye at a South Carolina gun range earlier this week has died.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore told local media that the 24-year-old Sarah Bonner from Lawrenceville, Georgia, died early Thursday after life support for several days.

She was shot in the face Monday during a visit to friends and family for Christmas. Shore said an autopsy is done, and the bullet will be examined to show which gun it came from.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Sheila Cole said in an e-mail that the researchers are now investigating whether the shooting was an accident.

Jerry James, who is the owner of the Skip-J Range, says that it is the first accidental shooting at the private gun and rifle club since its opening 24 years ago.
