‘The Blair Witch Project, the ‘Hansel and Gretel’ of the found footage horror films, returns to the white cloth. The successor is called, simply, “Blair Witch” and has already a trailer.
At the Comic Con was a trailer released of Blair Witch, the sequel to the found footage film The Blair Witch Project from 1999. The trailer has a striking similarity to that for the movie the Woods , in may 2016, online appeared. It turned out to be a trick to get the real name and so the link with The Blair Witch Project – to keep it a secret.
The hype around The Blair Witch Project was huge in 1999, when the internet was still young and good cameras were scarce. The movie is about three teenagers who, in their quest to find a witch from volksmythes, in the woods near Kurkittsville disappear; their images were the only thing that one of them was found. The almost perfect marketing did many believe that the movie really was. Even the filmkritische site IMDb gave at the time that the characters are missing and may have died.”
Most successful marketing campaign ever
With an alleged budget of only 60,000 dollars were creators Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez in the first weekend, a really witchy profit of 29.2 million dollars. In total, they knew, ultimately, 248 million dollars to rijven, well for the most successful viral marketing campaign ever.
