in the vicinity ofthe video Howard Kurtz: gaffe watch: experts say ex-VP seems to be in the past, sticking
‘MediaBuzz’ host Howard Kurtz weighs on why the former Vice-President Joe Biden meets with a raw racial nerve in the naming of racial segregation senators James Eastland and Herman Talmadge during a charity event in New York.
Out of all the senators he worked with over three and a half decades on the hill, Joe had Biden, two ardent defenders of segregation?
Seriously, could he be more tone-deaf?
We all understand the point that Biden was trying, if he is called up, its good relations with James Eastland and Herman Talmadge. He said he can work with anyone. He says he is a dealmaker. He said he can back to the era of bipartisan cooperation.

But all of that was completely drowned out by his choice of two long-dead Democrats. Eastland and Talmadge were not only opponents of integration, they were stone-cold racists. Democratic candidates go after Joe Biden for comments on segregation ists.

What is also disturbing are media reports that the former VP has had this story tells about Eastland and his staff urged him to stop — suggesting that, at least, a lack of discipline.
Also strange is, when Biden made the remarks at a New York fundraiser, was his observation that Eastland “never called me “boy”, he always called me ‘son.'”

Biden stood his ground, when the Reporter asked about Booker’s demand that he apologize.
“Apologize for what? Cory should not have to apologize. He knows it better. There is not one racist bone in my body; I was involved in the civil rights my entire career. Period of time. Period of time. Period.”
This is not true. It is also true that the policy, on the future, not the past.
Biden, the decision to highlight racism can backfire
To defend Biden can have comments in the debate; Peter Doocy has the details.
The media reaction was mixed. Some experts are really pounding him, including those who moderate find Biden and predicted he would implode with mistakes like this.
Others give him a pass, or to say, he spoke inartfully, in a way, you would not have had a Republican said the same thing. (Back in 2002, then-Senate majority Leader Trent Lott had to apologize after a firestorm when he segregation, Strom Thurmond and said when he had won his presidential nomination, praised, “we would not have had all these problems over all these years, either.'”)
