President Donald Trump has vowed to revive the coal industry, and regularly promises, “our miners back to work.” But one of his top White House advisors do not share, apparently, Trump’s affinity for carbon.
Economic consultant Gary Cohn says “coal makes a lot of sense, more than a commodity.”
Cohn made the remark while briefing reporters Thursday night on Air Force One. He highlighted natural gas as a “clean fuel” and said the United States could be a “manufacturing powerhouse, and even more environmentally friendly,” due to the Export of natural gas, and invests in wind and solar energy.
The comments are at odds with those of his boss, who has for coal and triggered a series of Obama-era energy policy.
