White House Director of Trade Policy Peter Navarro apologized on Tuesday for saying it was a “special place in hell” for the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — called his language “inappropriate.”

Navarro made the fiery remarks on “Fox News Sunday,” according to Trudeau, a post held-G7 press conference in which he said: “that Canada pushed”, from the United States, and Trump called the tariffs on steel and aluminum “unjust.”

“It’s a special place in hell for all the foreign leaders that maliciously diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tried to stab him in the back on the way out the door,” Navarro.

“And that’s what bad faith Justin Trudeau has with this stunt press conference. This is what weak, dishonest, Justin Trudeau has. And that comes directly from Air Force One.”

But Navarro has apologized for the remarks Tuesday, according to The Wall Street Journal, said that he had tried, a signal of strength.

“In the mediation, the message, I used language that was inappropriate and basically lost the power of the message. I own that, that was my mistake, my words,” he said in a Journal conference.

Trump had made similar remarks late Saturday night, accused the Canadian market leaders to act “humble and mild” in talks, before the ther the press conference.

“In a very dishonest and weak,” he said.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow on Sunday, Trudeau, “the accused stabbed us in the back” and a “sophomoric, political stunt for domestic consumption.”
