FROSTBURG, Md. – A West Virginia woman was found guilty for the death of a Maryland man who was found naked at the foot of a cliff, with his throat cut, in spite of its claims, that he her by the hand to cut itself.
Megan Shaffer’s lawyer Stephen R. Tully tells The Cumberland Times-News that they are considering an appeal after the 21-year-old was convicted of second-degree murder Monday in January 2017, the death of the 25-year-old Alexander Stevens.
Shaffer had pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, as well as manslaughter, and help commit or attempt to commit suicide. Her lawyers argued that she was the victim of Stevens’ physical and sexual abuse and that he used her hand to cut his own throat.
The public ministry says that there was no evidence of abuse and that Shaffer statements kept changing.
Her conviction is pending.
