Wesley Sneijder knighted by Utrecht’s mayor Jan van Zanen

Wesley Sneijder is Thursday knighted and is now a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. He received the award of the Utrecht mayor Jan van Zanen.

Also got the player in a sports stadium to be named after it. The Sportpark Thorbeckelaan in Utrecht is called from Thursday, Sportpark Wesley Sneijder. The Utrecht footballer unveiled the new name.

In addition to the unveiling of the new name on a board, it was Sneijder also knighted. He is now a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Van Zanen mentioned Sneijder “with his motivation, commitment and fighting spirit as an example for many. On the field, but certainly also beyond.”

Sneijder (34) itself calls the award “a very nice surprise. I am megatrots. A sports park that my name and a royal decoration. A huge honour.”

At the age of seven began Season with football in the Utrecht club DOS, one of the clubs that together make up the current tier of belgian football DHSC form (DOS-Holland-Stichtse Boys-Combination).
