Enjoy a taste of what is already one of the best Belgian jazzplaten of 2017.
Jazzcats with a penchant for home-grown can from next week to their heart’s content with Dug Out Skyscrapers, already the fifth album of De Beren Gieren. The piano trio around Fulco Ottervanger digs, and as always, deep in the reaches of the jazz and experiments with respect for the tradition.
Already there is the forward Weight of an Image. There’s also a clip, a live recording in black and white. The number, listening as light as a feather road, but that will not be for all tracks Dug Out Skyscrapers apply, says Fulco Ottervanger this week in Knack Focus. ‘My dark side let themselves see more and more often during writing. And we feel in the band all three in dark music, more to tell. Music only but is happy, is not so much fun to listen to. Then it quickly kitsch.’
