Volkswagen, Siemens to collaborate on industrial cloud technology

BERLIN (Reuters) – Volkswagen has selected Siemens as the integration partner to help connect with its 122 plants of Amazon’s cloud in an effort to more efficiency in the production, the two German companies announced on Friday.

“Siemens will play a major role in ensuring that machines and equipment from different manufacturers on the 122 Volkswagen plants its network efficiently in the cloud,” they said in a joint statement, without giving financial terms.

Volkswagen on Wednesday said it has in partnership with Amazon Web Services to link and integrate data from plant, machinery and systems, as a way to improve and standardize the production systems and processes.

For Siemens, Volkswagen is a major, high-profile customer for its MindSphere internet of things platform, the core of the Digital Factory division.
