Vice-President Mike Pence, honored more than 200 bike riders at the annual project Hero Memorial Day bike ride on Monday morning.
Pence, accompanied by his wife, Second wife, Karen Pence, and Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, hosted Project Hero on the Vice President’s residence, before the bikers started their route from Washington DC to Virginia Beach.
“It is written, if you pay off your debts, debts, debts; if honor, then honor; if respect, then respect,” Pence said from behind a Vice-presidential podium. “This is a day we remember those who serve and come home and to be able to welcome you heroes here, all of you who have worn the uniform of the United States, and some law enforcement authorities, and to bear the burden that come with this service.”
Pence added: “to be able to welcome you here, on the Holy days to be deeply humiliating, Karen and I are.”
Project Hero is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the support of veterans and first responders affected by post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, and violation of the achievement of rehabilitation, recovery, and resilience in your daily life. The Organisation of Memorial Day bike ride, “2017 Unitedhealthcare Memorial Challenge” was presented by Boeing.
“Karen and I are jealous, we are bikers! We would like to travel with you in the car,” said Pence, greeted him with laughter and applause. “Especially the first five miles are downhill.”
Pence President, Trump touted the “extraordinary” first overseas trip as commander-in-chief, and the administration, the commitment of veterans and military men and women, and cited a statistic that more than 1 in 5 veterans PTSD.
“It is Memorial Day in 2017 — their duty was to serve, it is our duty to remember,” Pence said. “It is the greatest privilege of my life to be, the Vice-President, a President who so deeply about the men and women of our armed forces and veterans of the United States, Donald Trump.”
Pence also Shulkin for his efforts in the “fight thanked give tirelessly” to the veterans of the United States, the “health care they have earned and deserve, in uniform,” and noted that an executive order signed by President Trump last month with the improvement of accountability within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“We wish you the best of luck and safe travel all the way to Virginia Beach, project Hero, which embraced all the way to a full recovery in a America, all who serve,” Pence said.
Second lady Karen Pence delivered a prayer to the Biker and joked: “don’t forget, all of these oranges and bananas, before you leave!”
