Verstappen and Weavers voted Athletes of the Year
Max Verstappen, and Sanne Wevers are Wednesday night at the NOC*NSF sports Gala in Amsterdam named, respectively, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year.
The 19-year-old Verstappen, who, because of vacation, was not present at the ceremony, received the Jaap Eden Award because of the great impression he made during his second season in Formula 1.
He received his doctorate after four races for Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing, won in Spain, as the first Dutchman to ever make a Grand Prix and ended up in a total of seven races on the podium.
The young Person showed at the election of the Sportsman of the Year sailor Dorian van Rijsselberghe, openwaterzwemmer Ferry Weertman, cyclist Tom Dumoulin and skater Sven Kramer behind. Last year, the title to shorttrackter Sjinkie Knegt.
Gymnast Weavers (25) wrote at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro history by being the first ever individual gold to tackle. She was in the balkfinale surprisingly the best with a score of 15,466.
At the election troefde they zeilster Marit Bouwmeester, wegwielrenster Anna van der Breggen, baanwielrenster Elis Ligtlee, openwaterzwemster Sharon van Rouwendaal and athlete Dafne Schippers. Schippers received the award last year.

Maaike Head and Ilse Paulis were team of the year.
The rowers won gold in Rio de Janeiro.
Vincent Weaver was coach of the year.
The family Weavers with daughter Lieke and Sanne, who came into action at the Games in Rio.
Sanne Wevers was Sportswoman of the Year.

Head and Paulis
Earlier in the evening received the rowers, Maaike Head and Ilse Paulis the award for Team of the Year. Turncoach Vincent Weaver was voted Coach of the Year.
Head and Paulis, who on the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the gold caught in the light’s double scull, were in Amsterdam the preferred beachvolleyballers Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen and the vrouwenhandbalteam.
Weavers is the father and coach of Sportswoman of the Year Sanne Wevers. He loved Giovanni Guidetti (volleyball) and Marcel Wouda (openwaterzwemmen).
Gymnast Eythora Thorsdottir was voted Talent of the Year. Swimmer Liesette Bruinsma was from fourteen nominees voted Paralympic athlete of the Year.
A jury of experts under the leadership of president Jeroen Bijl (manager of sport NOC*NSF), the nominations for the Gala.
The jury also consisted of age-swimmer Pieter van den Hoogenband, former rolstoeltennister Esther Vergeer, former schaatsster Marianne Timmer, former technical director of NOC*NSF, the Charles van Commenée, football coach Guus Hiddink and journalists Hans Klippus and Ewoud van Winsen.
