Veron stops permanently as a player after a short comeback at Estudiantes
Juan Sebastian Veron is Thursday finally stopped as a professional footballer. The 42-year-old Argentine showed at Estudiantes in extra time to switch in the game with Botafogo in the Copa Libertadores.
This brought an end to the brief comeback of five months in the Argentine club, where he is also the chairman.
His return was the result of a promise to the fans. Veron said that he put his football boots back on would draw if 65 percent of the new stadium occupied. That’s what happened.
Veron, which in Europe was released for Sampdoria, Parma, Lazio, Manchester United, Chelsea and Internazionale, has earned nothing on his return. He played for a minimum wage and donated that to a charity.
The midfielder came in a total of 75 times for the Argentine national team. He put earlier in 2014, a point behind his career, when at Estudiantes.
