VA’s chief of staff steps down after the trip flap

WASHINGTON – The Department of Veterans Affairs, says the office of the chief of staff has resigned after an investigation found she had forged e-mails to justify Secretary David Shulkin, the woman who has him on a European trip on taxpayer expense.

The internal investigation by the department of the inspector general, “serious derelictions” by Shulkin and his staff and urged the administration to take action against the chief of Staff Vivieca Wright Simpson.

Veterans Affairs spokesman Curt Cashour says Simpson “elected to retire” and the VA is the opening of a formal investigation into her actions.

Cashour says President Donald Trump has made it clear that he expects VA leaders holding themselves and other employees responsible if they do not meet the standards of the veterans and the taxpayers deserve.

Shulkin said that he would pay back more than $4,000 for his wife’s airline tickets.
