Van der Weijden is not at world record 24 hour swim
Maarten van der Weijden has Tuesday for a special performance ensured by 24 hours and after swimming, although he failed to break the world record to break.
The olympic champion in the open water at the 2008 Games, had set itself the goal of that record to improve. He had to do this a minimum of 102 kilometers have to swim, and came out at 99.5 km.
During his swimming marathon, Van der Weijden supported by several other swimmers and celebrities. Ferry Weertman, winner of olympic gold in the ten kilometres in Rio, and his girlfriend’s Ranomi Kromowidjojo swam the last stretch, with Van der Weijden.
Also, among others, Inge Dekker and presenter Beau van Erven Dorens supported Van der Weijden in the water. Although Van der Weijden at the start of the last hour, knew that the record would not pick up, he decided the 24 hour full.
The 36-year-old Van der Weijden, who himself healed of leukemia, took more than 8,500 euros to raise money for cancer research.
