Van der Poel prefer provisionally mountain bike top road
Mathieu van der Poel after coming veldritseizoen prefer the mountain bike over the road. The 22-year-old Dutchman allows himself a medal at the Olympic Games of 2020 in Tokyo.
“For the Games in Tokyo seems to me to be quite feasible to me. For me, it will be easier to bike to Tokyo to go for the road race. Certainly when I look at the medaillekansen”, said Van der Poel Monday at the ploegpresentatie of Beobank-Corendon compared to the AD.
The one-time world champion cyclo-cross made at the beginning of this summer the necessary impression on the road. He picked up the victory in the Boucles de la Mayenne and wrote moreover, two stages on his name in the French stage race.
It also helped to ensure that several WorldTour formations to the services of Van der Poel informed, but the principal itself is not yet so keen on.
“The road is fun, but I find that I still have time enough to get to that step. In 2020 I am only 25 years old and I think that’s still young enough. With a normal career can I still have ten years on the road.”
Van der Poel focuses in the spring entirely on the mountain bike. He hopes, in all world cup races of a head start.
“It is much more difficult than the cyclocross. On the mountain bike I tougher apart than in the cross. The technique, an hour and a half full bin and it’s every man for himself and not wait on the road.”
