Van der Mark starts season in World Superbike in fifth place

Michael van der Mark during the first race of the season in the World Superbike not on the stage ended. The Dutch driver finished on the Australian Phillip Island as the fifth.

The victory was the Spaniard Alvaro Bautista, who made his debut in the motorsportklasse. The former MotoGP rider was on his Motorcycle up to 15 seconds earlier at the finish than reigning champion Jonathan Rae.

Bautista performs with his victory in the footsteps of Max Biaggi. The Italian was in 2007, the last during his debut immediately won.

Van der Mark was just a shortage for the last spot on the podium. Marco Melandri was on him quickly, while his team-mate Alex Lowes still waiting for the Dutchman ended.

Sunday will Van der Mark still has a chance for its first podiumstek of the season, as the second race of the weekend on the program.

The 26-year-old South-Hollander has made himself this year’s goal was to compete for the title. Last season, he finished third.
