Mitchell van der Gaag has Friday a two year contract signed as coach of Jong Ajax. The former coach of Excelsior and NAC Breda is the successor of Michael Reiziger for the beloftenploeg of the Locals.
“I’m obviously very pleased with my appointment,” says the 47-year-old Van der Gaag on the site of Ajax. “Working with the greatest talents of the country is a fantastic challenge. Ajax is an absolute top club, the achievements of the past year have only strengthened.”
The former defender stepped in mid-march, when NAC Breda, which at that time hekkensluiter was in the Premier league and eventually relegated. Van der Gaag moved last summer from Excelsior to NAC. Previously, he was coach of the Portuguese clubs Marítimo Funchal and Belenenses, Ermis Aradippou in Cyprus and FC Eindhoven.
