Use or Not Use Diet Pills

People who are overweight or obese are always on the lookout for newer ways to lose weight. Most people look out for shortcuts to lose weight fast and are tempted to start using diet pills. However, the big question is should you use or not use diet pills as a method of losing weight?

Well, losing weight is not an easy task and people resort to all kinds of ways to lose weight, which include rigorous exercise routines, diet plans, liposuction, etc. If you are amongst the many people who want to lose weight by using diet pills, there are a few things that you need to consider before deciding to use these pills.

When we refer to diet pills, it can be two very different things. Firstly, the weight loss supplements which are sold over the counter and are easily available at the local drugstore. Here you will find an aisle offering everything including pills, teas and other weight loss supplements that promise weight loss. Next are the weight loss medications which are available only with a prescription from a healthcare professional.

The most important point that you need to remember about any weight loss supplement is that, just because they are available over-the-counter does not mean that they are safe. Some of the known side effects of over the counter weight loss supplements include dermatitis, sleep disruption and serious gastrointestinal problems.

In extreme cases like ephedra, over the counter products have lead to potentially fatal reactions. Over the counter supplements can also interact with some of the other medications you are taking. This could be dangerous if you are using medications to control serious conditions like heart disease or high blood pressure.

Taking any kind of medication without consulting a doctor is risky. Then there is the fact that there is not much research to prove that over the counter weight loss supplements work. You may have noticed the ads in small print that say, “When used in conjunction with diet and exercise “. If you are expecting a diet pill to do what only exercise and diet can, you will find that you have lost more money than actual weight.

If you do not lose weight even after exercising and eating right, speak to a doctor to find out if diet pills are an option for you. Diet pills are intended for individuals who have a significant amount of weight to lose and only if they are recommended by the doctor.
