“Because the United States continues to see value in the conference on disarmament, and remains behind its potential, we will be forced, again, to take a principled Position to support this body, the noble ideal,” he said.

“The United States therefore condemned in the strongest terms, Venezuela is the presidency in this body, while it is represented by the members of the illegitimate Maduro regime. As such, we have the CD for the next four weeks of the boycott-the duration of the Venezuelan presidency.”

The United States and more than 50 other countries, opposition leader Juan Guaido recognize as the legitimate President of Venezuela, to displace where a political and humanitarian crisis has significantly escalated this year after Guaido Maudro tried over the disputed elections last year. Maduro accused the US of trying to oust him as part of a coup through the support of Guaido and the imposition of sanctions against the country.

“Those who sit in Venezuela, the seat is now the illegitimate regime of Nicolas Maduro, and so do not speak on behalf of the Venezuelan people,” wood said on Tuesday. “To participate in the CD, under your presidency, credibility and legitimacy it would lend to this illegitimate, morally bankrupt, economically incompetent, deeply corrupt and inhuman regime.”

Reuters reported that Latin American delegations, including Argentina, Brazil and Chile remained away from the meeting, while Syria and Russia criticized what they saw as the politicization of the conference by the United States

“We regret that the representatives of the United States and its docile allies continue to bring in this forum, outside of the mandate of the CD,” Maduro Ambassador Jorge Valero, told reporters.

Wood was also heavily over the conference on disarmament, he said, was a waste of his potential, accusing it of clinging to a set, and repeats the same failed movement, each year.

“History has shown that a regime that represses people and blatantly ignored the rule of law at home has disdain for the international obligations and standards,” he said. “The CD can not move forward, if you are trapped under the yoke of illegitimate leadership.”
