US airman fatally shoots 2 young children as they slept, a woman, before killing himself: police

A pilot on the Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington murdered his family before using the gun on himself, police said.

A member of the U. S. Air Force in the state of Washington– who was reportedly desperate about the upcoming divorce– fatally shot his two young children, while they slept and his wife before he called 911 and killed, authorities said Tuesday.

The Pierce County sheriff’s office said they found the bodies in a house near Spanaway, about 45 miles south of Seattle. He told an emergency operator that he killed his family.

The victims were identified as Samantha Field, 33, and the couple’s children, 4-year-old Ava and 2-year-old Ashen, according to the county medical examiner’s office. The alleged shooter was Clint Field, 29. He was originally from Florida and his wife was from New Hampshire, the News Tribune reported.

The sheriff’s office said the children were filmed while they were sleeping and their mother was also a shot in bed. It said Clint Field was stationed at the nearby Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer told Seattle-area TV station KOMO that the researchers have learned Clint Field was angry and had a past incident, in which he mentioned suicide. Troyer also said family members indicated that the couple had a divorce proceeding to begin.

“We have not been to this house before and there is no history of domestic violence,” Troyer said.

Daine Patton, who sold the house a year ago to the family, said in an interview that it was a “tragic” situation.

“It really breaks my heart for those children … to be killed by their father. That’s terrible,” Patton said.
