United Airlines passenger to be above 21 years for drunkenly assault a flight attendant

An Australian woman was found guilty of sexual assault charges for slapping and yelling at a United Airlines crew member during an international flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles International Airport on 21 January of this year.

Adau Akui Atem Mornyang, 24, Victoria, Australia, was charged with the offence of interference with a crew and a count of the crime of sexual assault after he was in a state of intoxication while on the flight, and verbal and physical abuse of at least one member of the crew and other passengers, the United States Department of Justice reported in a press release.

According to evidence shared at the trial, Mornyang was annoying a few hours in the 14-hour flight, and began to flail her arms and yell obscenities, including racist remarks. When you are approached by a flight attendant, Mornyang allegedly struck him in the face, while they continue to scream.

Mornyang was limited by the federal air marshals on board, who stayed with the woman in the back of the galley of the plane until it landed safely at LAX.

The woman’s sentencing is scheduled for June 24. She faces a maximum penalty of 21 years in federal prison based on the charges.
