The food inspection agency of the United Nations (FAO) has calculated that every year one third of global food production is lost to waste, good for 1.3 billion tonnes of food per year. “In a time when nearly 1 billion people are hungry, is that excessive,” says the FAO. The UN food calls people in the context of the holidays on to keep the food consumption to pay attention to. The waste is “excessive” and “represents just as much a waste of labor, water, energy, raw materials and other resources which used to be the food’, it sounds.
