The negotiations to end the four-decades-long conflict in Cyprus have failed. Secretary-general, Antonio Guterres and the United Nations made in the night from Thursday to Friday announced that the talks on reunification in Geneva no results.
“I am sorry very much that, in spite of the strong commitment of all delegations, the conference on Cyprus has ended without an agreement is reached.”, “he said afterwards. The UN boss was on Thursday flown to the Greek and Turkish Cypriots, to help in order to come to an agreement.
Guterres did not elaborate on the reasons why the negotiations had failed. According to him, there were several areas of major differences. The island is in two parts separated since the arrival of Turkish troops in the northern part in July 1974.
