The national park Uluru in the Australian outback, also known as Ayers Rock, is closed because of a recordregenval. On images is to see how waterfalls of the world-famous red zandrots down gurgling.
Further to the west are also so-called “flash floods or tidal waves registered. Dozens of residents of the town of Kintore were therefore evacuated.
According to the Australian weather service, the rainfall of the past kerstweekend very exceptionally, on average, twice per century. there was Sunday to 232 mm of rain recorded, with winds of up to 125 miles per hour.
In Kintore, close to the border with Western Australia, dozens of houses flooded. Papunya, a town 250 kilometers northwest of Alice Springs, is completely closed off from the outside world.
It is not clear when the national park of Uluru-Katja Tuta – one of the most famous attractions of Australia – will once again open. Rangers first want to be sure that the situation is safe. (Belga)
