Two injured by explosion at church in Athens

An agent and an employee of a church are Thursday morning were injured by the detonation of an explosive in Athens. The explosion occurred outside a church in the centre of the city, report Greek media.

The two injured are brought to the hospital. Their injuries are not life threatening, notify health care professionals.

No one has the responsibility claimed. The church of Saint Dionysios is situated in the heavily guarded luxury neighbourhood of Kolonaki, which is adjacent to Exarchia, a district where the regular clashes between the police and anarchists.

“The policeman saw a box outside the entrance of the church, and found it strange. The explosion was not powerful, the agent was wounded in the face and hands,” said a politiewoordvoerder.

Small-scale attacks on companies, staatsgebouwen, police and politicians are not uncommon in Greece, which has a long history of political violence has.
