Two Dutch journalists safe after attack in wildlife park in the Congo
Armed men have a group of park rangers and journalists attacked in a remote wildlife park in the east of Congo. In addition, there were also two Dutch people involved, reports Reuters news agency.
The two Dutch journalists, together with ten Congolese park rangers have been found. An American journalist and three other park rangers are still missing.
The ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms against the NOS and RTL News that the Dutch in safety.
The attack took place in the night from Friday to Saturday, near the village of Mambasa in the Okapi Wildlife Reserve, ” says a manager of the area told Reuters.
In the east of the Congo, various armed groups are active, more people to kidnap for ransom. There would however be no proof that the group in question would also have been kidnapped.
Park rangers in Eastern Congo, that the dwindling populations of elephants and gorillas to protect, are also regularly confronted with poachers.
The army has a search launched, but the rescue operation is difficult because of the dense forest.
