The next time that President Trump tweets something that is in violation of Twitter’s standards, but still capture the imagination, the 280-character message can have a note attached to it.
Twitter, which has come under fire for the years of not doing enough to get rid of the platform of hate and abuse, examine how it could appeal to abusive tweets that break the rules, but are still in the general interest, according to Vijaya Gadde, the company of the head of the legal, policy, and the trust and security.
“One of the things that we work very closely with our product and engineering people is, ‘How can we label that?'” Gadde said in a response to questions from The Washington Post at an event in San Francisco. “How can we use the context around it, so people know which content is actually a violation of our rules and it is where a particular purpose is to be able to stay on the platform.”

According to the Post, Gadde said the efforts to provide additional context will be the maintenance of the Jack Dorsey-led company’s community standards, but can also the platform to serve as a place for public policy discussions.
In Twitter’s current iteration, she told the Post, “when we leave that content on the platform, there is no framework around that and the life on Twitter and people can see it and they just assume that the type of content or behavior that is allowed by our rules.”
However, the content that is violent or threatens direct damage is where Twitter currently attracts a line.
“There is absolutely a rule of the type of content, for example, a direct, violent threat against a person that we would not leave on the platform, because the danger for the person concerned,” said Gadde. “But, there are also other forms of content that we believe to be newsworthy or in the public interest that people want a conversation around.”

Dorsey has in the past said that the core aspects of Twitter can be changed or modified and the company is testing a range of ways to make calls on the platform more healthy. The CEO has defended keep of Trump’s tweets on the site, because they are inherently newsworthy, even if Twitter has updated the definition of what is “dehumanization” on the platform.
Trump regularly make use of Twitter to attack his political enemies, including the late Sen. John McCain, mocked in the media, like CNN and he has retweeted unverified anti-Islamic videos.
