Strikingly chic, anomalous, and grotesque, so see this fiendish crime thriller from Ridley Scott (with Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz) out.
Maybe it was that odd combination that caused this in a very hot El Paso side story about greed, deception and machismo by the majority of critics so cool was welcomed. Scott knows in each case a cast of impressive names around to collect.
Sexy beast Cameron Diaz shines as a vicious femme fatale and Brad Pitt growls menacingly as a Texas drug dealer. Javier Bardem plays a flamboyant nachtclubuitbater with designvilla while Michael Fassbender arrogant from the corner as a smooth lawyer in coke, diamond, and Penelope Cruz is hooked. And that deliciously nasty or even light philosophical dialogue? That of Cormac McCarthy, the author of No Country for Old Men and The Road. They’re full of gravy and more sting, it teases and intrigues. (LJ)
