Turkey loses almost a third of tourism revenue
The income from tourism in Turkey during the past year by 29.7 per cent. Many tourists avoid the country for fear of attacks.
The Turkish statistics agency Turkstat has calculated that the total revenue had decreased to 20.6 billion euros. Tourists gave an average of 664 euros per visit.
The decrease may have partly to do with the political instability in the country. Tens of thousands of arrests were carried out after the foiled coup in July. Also there were last year several attacks, including those on airport Istanbul Ataturk in capital Ankara. By sanctions, if Russian tourists until mid-2016, not the country.
In July cancelled dozens of travelers on their trip to Turkey. Travel agencies reported earlier that many Dutch people declined a trip to the country.
Tourism is a major source of income for Turkey. More than 10 percent of the gross domestic product (gdp) comes from tourism.
