The day before, with a loaded 9 mm handgun was found in a woman’s bag as her purse passed through an X-ray machine. The woman was said to have been told by the authorities that they “forgot” the gun was in her purse, according to the Portland Press Herald.

TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein has been described, the double discovery of the weapons is purely a coincidence, to emphasize that there have been no changes to the airport’s policy with regard to the rules governing the transportation of firearms and ammunition.

“I can tell you this. We have to catch a lot of guns at one of the airports in the national,” Farbstein comments.

“Passengers are permitted to travel with firearms only in checked baggage if they are properly packaged and declared,” she explained. “Firearms must be unloaded, packed in a hard-sided case, locked, and packed separately from the ammunition.”

The laws with regard to firearm possession vary by state, but the TSA can impose civil penalties of up to $13,333 per violation, for anyone who is trying to get their weapons and other prohibited items on board the aircraft.

“Repeat after me: I will not bring my gun into an airport security checkpoint,” Farbstein later, ” he wrote on Twitter.
