President Trump on Friday unveiled the logo for the newly created space force, the sixth branch of the U.S. armed forces.

“After consultation with our Great Military leaders, designers, and others, I am looking forward to the new logo of the United States Space Force, the Sixth branch of our Wonderful military!” he tweeted.

The logo is similar in design to the Air Force Space Command logo, the predecessor of the Space Force.

“The U.S. Space Force seal honors the Department of the Air Force is proud of the history and long-standing track record of providing the best space capabilities in the world,” a Space Force spokesman told Fox News. “The delta-symbol, the Central design element in the seal, which was first used in 1942 by the U.S. Army Air Forces; and was in early Air Force space organization emblems Dating to the year 1961. Since then, the delta symbol is a prominent feature in the military space community emblems.”

In December, a$, Congress passed 738 billion Pentagon defense bill that authorized the creation of the Space Force. Your goal is to train and equip space forces, in order to protect U.S. and allied interests in space and to-space-functions, the joint force, the spokeswoman said.

Trump floated the idea for a Space Force in 2018 when speaking to Marines at the Miramar Air Station in San Diego. The branch now falls under the Department of the Air Force, just like the Marine Corps is part of the department of the Navy.

“You know, I said it the other day cause we do a lot of work in space,” Trump said. “I said, ‘maybe we need a new force, we call it the space force.” And I was not really serious, and then I said, ‘what a great idea, maybe we will have to do this.'”
