China, North Korea confirm Kim Jong Un’s visit to Beijing

Chinese state media reports Kim, President Xi said he is committed to a nuclear-weapon-free Korean Peninsula and is ready to discuss the Problem with the United States; Rich Edson reports from the State Department.


President Trump on Wednesday appeared to be optimistic in a much-anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, saying it is a “good chance” the dictator will do what is right for “his people and for humanity.”

On Twitter, Trump said he had received a message, the signals from the Chinese President Xi Jinping, his own meeting with Kim went well and Kim offers Trump.

For years and through many administrations, all said that the peace and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is still a small possibility. Now there is a good chance that Kim Jong Un will do what is right for his people and for humanity. Look forward to our meeting!

Kim reportedly met with Xi on an “unofficial visit” to Beijing this week. The White house said on Tuesday, the Chinese government informed had the US on the visit and passed to Trump a personal message from Xi.


Trump agreed last month to a meeting with Kim in may, after months of fiery rhetoric between the two countries and the escalating rounds of sanctions in response to North Korea’s continuing nuclear weapons program and nuclear tests.

At the United Nations in September, Trump, called Kim “the Rocket Man” and warned that Kim was on a “suicide mission.”

“The United States has great strength and patience, but to defend if it is forced to himself or his allies, we have no choice, but to completely destroy North Korea,” he said.

As part of the agreement for talks, South Korean officials Trump said that Kim was committed to denuclearisation and was willing to stop nuclear tests.

Kim is expected that a separate summit with the South Korean President, Moon Jae in April.

On Wednesday, Trump said that “unfortunately, the maximum sanctions and pressure must be kept at any price!”
