Russia-relations: Trump congratulates Putin

President says he will.have a meeting with his Russian counterpart soon; the reaction and the analysis from the ‘Special Report’ All-Stars

President Trump blasted the “crazy” media Wednesday about the coverage of his congratulatory call to Russian President Vladimir Putin after the victory of his choice, stating that “together with Russia” is a “good thing” and another US President, not a “chemistry” with Putin.

“I called President Putin of Russia to congratulate him on his election victory (in the past, Obama called him too). The Fake-News Media is mad because she wanted me to excoriate him. You are wrong! Together with Russia (and others) is a good thing, not a bad thing……” Trump tweeted on Wednesday afternoon.

The President of the tweet came after days of criticism from members of both parties and the media for his exchange to call and congratulate Putin following Russia’s presidential elections.

“…You can help to solve problems with North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, ISIS, Iran, and even the coming arms race,” Trump continued later in a tweet a few minutes. “Bush is trying to get together, but do not have the ‘smarts.’ Obama and Clinton tried, but had not the energy or chemistry (remember you set for yourself.) PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH.”

The President of the call with Putin occurred on Tuesday morning, as the two discussed a possible meeting in the “not-too-distant future.”

But the President of the National security Council had warned him, not to congratulate Putin on the call.

First, The “Washington Post” reported late Tuesday and confirmed by Fox News, the NSC prepared a memo for the President after the election phone call with Putin, and warned him not to congratulate Putin on his election victory. The memo read, “CONGRATULATE”, in all-caps.

But a senior administration official told Fox News on Wednesday that it was likely that Trump never seen in the memo, such as its pre-call briefing was done over the phone and not in person.

The senior administration official told Fox News that during the pre-call briefing, “was not” congratulate orientation is never brought up.

While the memo was said in the president’s daily briefing book, a senior administration official, it was probably the President did not read before the call, which took place in the early hours of the morning, away from the residence.

White house officials told Fox News that the chief of staff, John Kelly, is “frustrated and deeply disappointed” that someone has leaked the contents of the Putin-briefing memo.

But government officials told Fox News that the White house still has a leaker willing to leak classified information to the press with the intent to embarrass the President.

“If this story is accurate, that means that someone leaked the President’s briefing papers,” a White house official told Fox News. “Leaking such information is a fireable offense, and probably illegal.”
