Trump’s campaign has long fumed over sessions in the last year, decided to recuse himself from the supervision of the Russia-probe due to his involvement in the trump. On Thursday, Trump said in an interview with Fox & Friends that the meetings had taken on the “never in control” of his Department, and again railed his decision to recuse himself.

“But if everybody sees what’s going on is the Ministry of the justice — I always have ‘justice’, which is now with the quotation marks-it is a very, very sad day. Jeff Sessions recused themselves, which done, he should not have. Or he should have told me,” Trump told Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt.

“Even my enemies say that Jeff Sessions should have told you that he was going to recuse himself, and then they would not put in him. He took the job and then he said I’m going to recuse myself. I said, ‘what a man is this?'” he said.

But sessions shot back on these comments in a written statement.

“I took control of the Department of Justice the day I was sworn in, which is why we have had unprecedented success in effectuating the President’s agenda—one that enforces and protects the safety and rights of the American people reduces violent crime, our immigration laws, promotes growth and progress of the religious freedom.”

He went on to say, “While I will be the office of the Prosecutor General, the actions of the Department of Justice improperly influenced by political considerations.”

Trump’s comments seem to have sparked, in part, on the conviction of the former trump-campaign-Chairman Paul Manafort, this week, the Mueller probe.

In spite of the attacks, which have led to the widespread speculation that Trump will fire his attorney General, sessions led the way on a number of the most important parts of the Trump agenda-including a harder on the opioid crisis and the focus of enforcement on immigration.
