SALT LAKE CITY – A pickup truck plowed into a Starbucks patio on Friday in a suburb of Salt Lake City shopping center, killing a woman and critically wounding three others, authorities said.
Researchers believe that a medical problem — possibly a seizure, the cause of the male driver spring from a nearby road, over a curb and into the patio in Millcreek, Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said. They do not think it a deliberate act.
A group of three people sitting on the terrace were struck by the truck which also struck a pillar and rolled. The patio was about 100 meters from the road, Gray said.
Joslyn Nicole Spillsbury, 48, of Salt Lake City was killed, Gray said. The director and two of the people from the terrace were in critical condition.
The director of the two small children in the truck and sustained minor injuries.
Gray said the ongoing investigation will determine whether the driver faces charges.
