Trial set for Mississippi father in his baby’s hot car death

GRENADA, Miss. – A Mississippi man on trial Jan. 30 in the hot car death of his 8-month-old daughter.

Joshua Blunt is charged with manslaughter. Shania Rihanna Caradine died May 19 after she found unconscious in Blunt car, where she was left behind while he worked in a Grenada restaurant.

In August, a grand jury in another Mississippi county declined to indict a white mother whose 2 year old died in hot car May 11.

Blunt is an African-American, and his attorney, Carlos Moore, says that he believes that the Bone is treated stricter because of his race.

Moore said Tuesday that Circuit Judge Joseph Loper has been denied his request for a delay in the Blunt process, because Blunt’s fiance, who is the mother of Shania, is pregnant. Moore says that the stress of a trial could be harmful.
