The transition can have the same effect on the lungs as the ten year long smoker of twenty cigarettes per day. Middle-aged women who are in the transition are, therefore, suffer from shortness of breath and fatigue.
A team from the University of Bergen (Norway) examined eur 1,438 women in the age from 25 to 48 years, writes the Daily Mail. They looked, inter alia, to the size of the lungs and how much air in a second could be exhaled.
None of the participants was at the start of the research in the transition. All the women were for twenty years, followed. The research is published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
According to researcher Kai Treibner of the University of Bergen, women should be aware that they suffer more may get from breathing problems during the transition. “That means that they may already be short of breath with minimal physical effort.”
