TOKYO (Reuters) – Toyota Motor (7203.(T) the Lexus will launch its first all-battery electric vehicle in the next year, the luxury brand of the varieties on the market with a battery-powered car stirs up the competition, to the development of zero-emission vehicles, the head of the brand said on Wednesday.
With the unveiling of a concept model of a futuristic EV hatchback ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show, he added that the goal was to sell the Lexus of electric vehicles, including battery electrics and petrol-hybrid, is higher than the sales of the luxury brand of petrol-driven cars by 2025.
The Lexus model, Toyota’s first full-sized, battery-powered cars, as the Japanese automaker catches up with rivals, including Nissan Motor Co (7201.The Tesla Inc (TSLA.(O) that are in the market to have a battery Service for years to come.
“In the first instance, we will have the release of the product in China, North America and other regions, where the demand for pure EVs is very high,” Lexus International’s President, Yoshihiro Sawa told reporters, adding that the brand would announce details of the next model of the month.
Global car manufacturers are expanding their vehicle offerings to a more electrified models to comply with tightening global emissions regulations, however, the demand for more environmentally friendly vehicles has been slowly growing because of their high price.
