Tourists cause large crowds on the road during holiday months
It is since 2010 no longer as busy on the Dutch roads in the months of July and August. Compared with the summer months last year was there this summer, 23 percent more files. That is the figure for the traffic information service (VID).
The summer crowds is attributed to the prolonged closure of the A10-west, the improving economy and more tourists from surrounding countries.
According to the VID caused beachgoers from Germany in July and August, each weekend long traffic jams on the A12 from Germany. Also Belgian tourists made regularly for crowds, especially on the A58 in Zeeland. The files in Den Helder on the way to the ferry to the island of Texel this year were also longer than in previous years.
One of the few sunny days last month, August 23, ran the traffic mass on the roads to the coast. Both in the morning as the night there was almost 100 kilometres of traffic jam from and to the beaches.
