The hotelbarometer of Tourism Flanders based on the occupancy rates and includes about half of all the hotels in the Flemish Region, Brussels is not included. The figures show that the hotel capacity in Flanders in april, 2016 8.5 percent lower than in april 2015. In may, the difference was 8.4 percent in June to 9.1 percent. The gap is however closing. Although the figures are not yet official, they will go for July 2016 in the direction of a loss of 6 percent compared to July 2015.

For August, expected Tourism Flanders is even better figures. The Flemish cities were harder to endure than the coastal cities. There is a simple explanation for it. In the cities it is 75 percent of the overnight stays for foreign tourists, while the coast for 80 percent of a domestic audience. “The domestic public and the tourists from our neighbouring countries were soon after the attacks back. Now, the further markets gradually returned to Flanders.

Only tourists from Australia, the USA and Japan, countries where the issue of security strong lives, watching the cat still in the tree,” says Stef Gits, spokesperson of Tourism Flanders. (Belga)
