Topzwemster Meilutyte ends career at the age of 22

Topzwemster Ruta Meilutyte on Wednesday all at the age of 22 to a point behind her career. The Lithuanian has a difficult period behind and wants to move on other things to focus on.

Meilutyte picked up in 2012 at the age of fifteen olympic gold in the 100 meter breaststroke and was a year later also world champion on that part. She has 1.02,36 in addition, the world record in hands on the short-course.

At the Olympic Games of 2016 in Rio de Janeiro grip Meilutyte in addition to the medals, after which they are also on other large tournaments are often not replied to the prices. Last year, they stated in an interview that they have with depression now.

In the past year fell Meilutyte, the first Lithuanian swimmer ever with an olympic medal, especially because they three times a doping test missed. Swimming federation FINA wanted her for at least a year and suspend, but now she has so her career ended.

“I have always given everything for the swim and I’ve grown up,” writes Meilutyte in a statement. “My studies suffered from my busy schedule and I now want to start with a clean slate. I want simple things to start doing for myself and the world around me better understand.”

Meilutyte came in december last in action at the world cup short-course the Chinese Hangzhou, where they in the 100 meter breaststroke to take the silver medal.
