Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is supposed to appoint, the state will occupy the first female member of Congress by picking the state Commissioner for agriculture, to the vacancy left by Sen. Thad Cochran’s upcoming retirement.
The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Cindy Hyde-Smith, who has served as the state Commissioner of agriculture since 2011, will step in for the veteran Republican seat. The announcement could be as soon as Wednesday.
Should Hyde-Smith appointed, holding the place for the special election in the Nov. 6, if you would be supported by the GOP establishment, against both the Democrat and Challenger from the right in the form of grassroots-backed state Sen Chris McDaniel.
McDaniel went on to challenge the incumbent Sen. Roger Wicker, but last week announced that instead of running its intention to Cochran square.
“With the announcement, at the beginning, to unite, we ask Mississippi Republicans, to my candidacy and avoid another controversial competition among the GOP members that said the improvement with the Democrats” chances of a free place,” McDaniel in a statement Wednesday. “If we unite, to consolidate the party, and our resources, we can guarantee that Donald Trump is a fighter, which is in the stand with him.”
Cochran resigned from the Senate last week, in the midst of challenges to health, after he for the past 40 years. His seat would not be up for re-election. His current term of office began after the 2014 midterm election cycle, and then expire in the year 2020.
The Associated Press reported that the Hyde-Smith might be able to call on the support of agricultural interests, the strong in Mississippi.
But to lose with McDaniel challenge from the right, the situation establishments are nervous about a repeat of last year in Alabama special election in which the populist judge Roy Moore came from construction-backed Luther strange, only to Democrat Doug Jones in the General election.
Sources told Fox News last week that the GOP was the establishment, at the urging McDaniel to compete against the Wicker, rather than for Cochran’s seat, as some members are concerned that it could lead to a Democratic victory.

“Mitch McConnell wants the Senator to hand-pick our next one. I understand why,” he said in a statement. “It’s because you don’t know that I will answer them [the GOP establishment], I will answer to the voters in Mississippi and put Mississippi first.”
