‘To 18,000 Rohingya fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh
So 18,000 Rohingya are last week from Myanmar to Bangladesh fled, says the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Wednesday.
The Rohingya, an ethnic moslimgroep, trying to escape the worst violence in the north-west of Myanmar in the last five years.
The large number of vluchtellingen the last days is caused by a series of coordinated attacks Friday by Rohingya rebels on security forces in the state of Rakhine in the north of Myanmar and the subsequent collisions.
The IOM says that it is difficult to estimate is how many people are stranded in a piece of no-man’s land on the border between the two countries, but added that certain “hundreds” of refugees stuck there.
Britain has asked to be a spoedzitting of the Security council on Wednesday about the escalating violence between the Rohingya and security forces in Myanmar. Many Rohingya to flee in the past to Bangladesh, but the border troops of that country to keep the muslims are currently at.
